Welcome to the 3rd Disputationes on
Native and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Standardization
March 19–21, 2012, Florence, Italy
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Workshop “Native and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Standardization” to be held in Florence, Italy, on March 19-21, 2012, it is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the Event. This Workshop has been organized in view of the potential exploitation of the embryonic stem cell and, above all, iPS technology by industry and clinical medicine. The failure so far experienced in applying stem cell technology to repair parenchymal organs can be ascribed to the lack of sufficient knowledge on basic mechanisms, but also to the absence of standardized criteria and protocols. Very often, each laboratory follows its own “recipe”, using arbitrary nomenclature and non comparable, if not confusing, experimental protocols. All this makes it difficult to learn from the others and, ultimately, hampers the progression of knowledge on stem cell behavior and applicability...

River Publishers is delighted to be able to announce that we have become an accredited scientific publisher in Denmark, measured as per the BFI-indicator which is issued by the Ministry Science, Innovation and Higher Education (Ministeriet for Forskning, Innovation og Videregående Uddannelser). This has been effective since 2011 and the name of River Publishers will appear in the list from 2012.
The BFI-index is a quality indicator for academic publications in Denmark, and with River Publishers now accepted this means that the publications of scientists and researchers with us will be officially recognized by the Danish government.
As River Publishers continually aims to work with scientists to help them develop their careers we are delighted with this latest development in our Quality Assurance program.

Journal of Green Engineering
Special Issue on Exploiting ICT for a Sustainable Green World

Challenges
During the last years social challenges such as pollution, dwindling natural resources and climate change are being more intensively taken into consideration by federal and local governments, public and private industry, citizens and in a wider sense by the European Union.
This is also certified by the fact that currently investments by the European Union in cleaner technologies is increasing aggressively to meet carbon-reduction targets, boost energy security, and improve the economic sustainability and health of its communities. Private capital investors seek to invest in companies with innovations that exploit the commercial potential of green technology. Private industry and public organizations are investing in research and development and producing new technologies that address the demands set by legislative policies and consumers. Researchers and technologists are developing new solutions that improve the efficiency and efficacy of existing environmental technologies and infrastructures. Consumers are demanding that the products they buy and services they use are environmentally sound. These green technology stakeholders are engaged in parallel, and not often, in collaboration on ways to best address the demands and challenges of this fast-changing green technology challenge and market. Therefore, green technologies are continuously gaining industry, research, government and non-governmental attention. So, obviously, now is the appropriate time for taking the essential steps that will show that the involved parties are highly active in the area, along with the ICT solution they have developed.
Scope
In this respect, this special issue, supported by European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), solicits innovative and high-quality work, as well as general, survey-like papers on relevant areas. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
Manuscript Submission
Articles should be of tutorial in nature and authors must follow the guidelines for preparation of the manuscript and its format. Manuscripts should be submitted in PDF format with a separate cover letter, which contains the paper title, authors, affiliations, complete contact information (indicating the primary contact author), a 250-word abstract, and 3-5 keywords, via an e-mail to all of the guest editors, and should not exceed six (6) pages. Papers outside of the scope of this special issue will be rejected; authors uncertain about the relevance of their paper should inquire with the guest editors before submission. All papers will be subject to a peer-review process.
Schedule
Full Paper Submissions: January 12th, 2012

Future Technologies for Health Care
Converging Biomedicine and Engineering September 18 – 20, 2011 Indian Institute of Information Technology in association with Disputationes The improved quality of life has determined an extraordinary expansion of longevity changing the population structure and exponentially amplifying the aging people. As a consequence, the progressive increase in degenerative diseases and related disabilities will determine the impossibility to sustain health system overspending in most countries. In this respect, new cost-effective solutions to enhance the quality and quantity of healthcare creating an equal access to the most advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures by all individuals independently of the geographic and economic conditions are some of the compelling needs. However, the application of very advanced technologies to healthcare will require further relevant investments and cannot be a concern of the bio-medical field alone, but must involve the knowledge accumulated in a multiplicity of fields, such as mathematics, ICT, material science and engineering. The convergence between bio-medicine and engineering holds promise to benefit both the patients and the industries.
