Layman Description:

The dissertation assesses the reliability of three diagnostic methods in Indian Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine: body constitution, tongue diagnosis and pulse diagnosis.

A novel, statistical analysis method was developed to assist data analysis in Ayurvedic medicine. The result of the thesis identified that experience in certain diagnostic skills, specific training and standardized terminology are important contributing factors to reliability.

The thesis represents an important pioneering contribution to the issues related to the evidence base of traditional medicine in general and Ayurveda in particular.
